If it is not too much to ask, a print version would be awesome :)

If anyone is interested in a Detailed Walkthrough, I just uploaded a video.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I'll be sure to post on my socials.

I was hoping to find a review, what a happy day :)

Hey, Cody.  Question.  I am ready to do a video review of the game on my yt channel, RPG Frequencies.  I have created a table in playingcards.io to make it easy for someone to play the game online.  The only thing at all that could be deemed proprietary is I have a section to list the monsters you are fighting and I use their names.  I do NOT include stats or anything.  I would like to offer the table to folks for free to usse to help them play the game.  Just wanted to get your permission before I did that.  Please let me know.  If you'd like to discuss first or see the table, you can reach me at lordgwydione@gmail.com.  I will not release the table without your permission. Thanks!

More questions/comments!  :)

Fleeing Combat

On page 39, it states in order to flee a combat you roll 2d6 and add your Wits.  If you roll equal to or lower than the enemies DS the combat ends.  Otherwise the enemy attacks.  Given wits is added, it seems like the test should be equal to or greater than the DS?  Is the text a typo or is it intended to be equal to or lower and your Wits score actually penalizes you?  Thanks!

Companions - Wizard

Just confirming. Does the Wizard give you +2 W or +2M.  I could see it go either way but the books says +2W.  If it is +2W as written, if I'm a human guardian with a wizard companion, then I could never use Greater Power as I would not be able to learn any spells as my Magic would be +0.  Is that right?

Locations

Just a nit but the table on page 24 shows the following:
1-3: Gain 2 Tracks

4-5: Draw 1 being

5: Draw 1 Thing and gain 1 Track

I think the final "5" should be a 6.

(+1)

Fleeing is equal to or less than. The intention is that stronger enemies have higher DS, making them easier to run from. Wits can only ever go to +3 (the max for stats), so on average the player would be rolling 7 (d6 result) plus 3, for 10. At a DS of 10, these are the "harder" level enemies.

The Wizard companion gives +2 Wits. Greater Power could be used as the player can attempt to cast their Magic +2 total Spells in a Quest (page 40). I never wanted to lock-out players from the magic system.

Thank you for finding the wrong number! I'll be sure to make note and edit it.

Makes sense with one follow up!  My point on the Wizard is that I read it that the max number of spells you can cast per quest is Magic + 2 (pg 40), so minimum of two spells.

However, to determine which spells they can "memorize or choose" per quest, it appears that is "up to" their Magic stat (pg 41).  Unless there is a minimum of one I took this to mean if my Magic stat was zero then I couldn't choose any spells.

Maybe a houserule would be a minimum of 1?

Thanks again for being patient with my questions!

(+1)

I like the idea of a minimum 1 Spell. Good call!

You're welcome. I try my best to get clarifications out to players.

Combat - Quick FYI

This isn't a complaint as much as I thought it was interesting and going forward I might houserule something.

My first combat I was against a River Troll.  My Elf Hunter had found an Iron Soul which gave me a d10 Defense, but -2CS.  My CS was +3 so it became +1.  Given the Troll's DS was 10, it was challenging for me to hit given I only had a +1 CS.  When I did hit, my bow as a d6 and his defense was a d8 so it was still hard to damage him.

When I lost the round, given his atk was a d8 and my defense was a d10, it was difficult for him to hurt me.  We went through probably 6-7+ rds without anything happening.  Certainly makes some sense but got a bit grindy.  I might houserule something that after 3 rds of no dmg to either party I might say we both take a hp dmg or something just to keep things moving and have consequence.

Hope you don't mind the feedback.  I'm really enjoying this game and want to stream a playthrough but just trying to get the flow down first. Thanks!

Your house rule makes sense and is similar to others that I've heard. A round system would fit well for mitigating stalemate situation like you mentioned. I might include a similar system in a FAQ, to speed up Combat and keep the action moving forward.

I usually run from the bigger enemies, unless I have a strong party and some good gear!

(+1)

lol.  Yes.. I should have considered running as well and just got fortunate with the dice gods!

Another question.  When I create a character am I allowed to take up to three companions?  I did not take any at the start as I thought I might have to "discover" them, but it appears maybe I could add up to three when I create a character?  Thanks!

(+1)

Absolutely. The Companion system is designed to aid players in adventurers and provide storytelling opportunities. I typically follow 1 Companion added at the start of each quest, but having a full party to start is a fine way to play!

Love the game so far!  Will do a playthrough video at some point. Few questions as I’m playing through.

  1. Do accessories have to be used to get the bonus?  I'm an elf hunter so I get 3 wits but I also have a cloak with 1W in my starting equipment. So do I always have +4 now?
  2. If the enemy wins initiative and gets a free attack I assume I can still roll my defense for my Armour?
  3. One of 25 the locations section says some locations will list beings or things. Looking at the locations table there are no things. Is that a typo?  There are things in the events table.

thx!

(+1)

Glad to hear you are enjoying your time with the game!
1 - As long as you have it on your person you get the bonus.

2 - You still roll to defend against the attack, yes.

3 - The intention with the rules was that Locations could reveal just a Thing for the player to find, but the game uses a d6 roll to determine if a Thing is found now (page 24). I understand the confusion and apologize for that.

(+1)

Awesome!  Thanks for a great game and the quick reply!

(+1)

Am I supposed to start with no Wits? It feels impossible to succeed at DS rolls like this.

I also don't understand "Total Spells usage = Magic total + 2" on the character sheet.

(+2)

Some backgrounds will start with 0 Wits but you can find a companion to help give a bonus. If you are having a run of bad luck, try decreasing the DS by 2 at each level. I've played with DS at 8, 10, and 12 and felt it was easier to get through my first few quests.

Total Spells that can be cast during a quest is equal to your Magic stat, plus 2. So if you have 0 Magic, you add 2, for a total of 2.

(+1)

Thanks much for the reply! I appreciate it. Even with my run of bad luck, I've enjoyed figuring out how to play.

I have a physical copy of the game. Where can i find a character sheet?

Check the "Demo" section of this page for the link. Enjoy!

Hey! Thanks for this stunning game 😊

I do have a question though... What does "MW" stands for?

Like, when creating the PC, a Human has +1 MW, while a Dwarf has +2 MW.

(+1)

Happy to hear you are enjoying the game!

MW is max wounds, so +1 MW for a Human would mean 4 total wounds (3 is the base).

Cool, thanks 😊🙏

Hey, I actually bought Wandering Souls on Drive Thru RPG. Am I still able to a copy of this update? Cheers

(+1)

I am finalizing the print-on-demand copy of Wanderer for DriveThru RPG before launching the project there. I will be sending free upgrade codes to buyers on DTRPG at that time. However, if you shoot me an email (cody@sleepysasquatchgames.ca) I'll get you a code in the meantime.

I did my first quest this week and enjoyed your system immensely. Do you plan to do something called Wanderer The Under Realm? Hint, hint! :-D

(+2)

Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

I have a 90% finished adventure called Wanderer - The Dream of Fear that I was planning on launching later this year when I get some more time. In it players explore an ancient pyramid that was once home to an Elven King.  It is full of Shadow beings and ancient evils a la Tolkien's nameless things and some new mechanics. New characters, new weapons and armour, new places to explore.

The Under Realm sound cools and would work greatly by leaning into a Moria-style adventure. I'll put it on my to-do list!

Thanks,

- Cody

I am eagerly waiting for the finished The Dream of Fear! Cheers!

Oh wow!  Hope you are still working on this!  I'm in!

(+1)

It is complete as of a few months ago. I need to do another quick review. Honestly, Dream of Fear might be something I can get out this week!

(+1)

Awesome!!!

(+2)

This looks awesome! 2 things

1) will this be available in print?

2) I am so honored that you continue to use my work in your book. Thank you. I notice there is one piece that's a bit off. If you reach out, I think we can find a way to enhance it. On the discord or the patreon, or blue sky

(+1)

1 - Planning on it. I will likely do a print-run in the next couple of months, once my other projects are fulfilled.

2 - Love your art! Thank you for providing it to be used. I'll message you on Patreon to get the piece sorted.

Print run when?

(+1)

Likely next year. You can get a print-on-demand copy with DriveThruRPG though! (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/485324/wanderer-the-shadowed-realm)

(+2)

I am sorry, but the key you've sent does not let me claim the game as written. It just leads me directly to downloads. Just letting you know. Thanks!

(+1)

Thank you for letting me know. I will send another email and key later today.

Thank you!
